The ninth session of the regional InQuire Migration Research Laboratory Program was held on March 21, 2024, in online format. The session was held with participants from the Western Balkan region and Türkiye, with the support of the regional WB-MIGNET network.
In the ninth session, participants had the opportunity to listen to a presentation on the topic of migration in Kosovo and its effect on the labour market, and the session was led by senior researcher Albulena Jahja, PhD. Albulena is a long-time member of the WB-MIGNET network, and she shared with the participants her experiences in conducting research on the potential impact of visa liberalisation on migration flows in Kosovo.
Through the discussion, the participants talked about the impact of emigration of highly qualified workers on the economy of the state in the short and long term, about strategies or initiatives that the state can implement in order to reduce the negative effects of the outflow of qualified labour and encourage the stay or return of professionals, and about the ways in which the state can use the potential of the diaspora in support of economic development and innovation.
