CREDI researchers Nermin Oruč, Amela Kurta, and Ilma Kurtović have released a study titled “Assessment of Local Impact of Decarbonization in Coal Mining in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” as part of the GreenFORCE Project’s efforts to advance just green transition (JGT) initiatives across the Western Balkans. This case study examines the anticipated impact of future coal mine closures on coal sector workers and local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an in-depth look at labour market effects and budgetary implications in local economies.
The study aims to inform policy development that can help mitigate potential social and economic impacts as Bosnia and Herzegovina transitions toward decarbonization. Findings from this research contribute to the GreenFORCE Project’s broader goal of strengthening research capacities and innovation in green transition policies in the region. ‘GreenFORCE – Foster Research Excellence for Green Transition in the Western Balkans’ (Grant no:101059411) is a Horizon Europe Project.
This publication, part of a larger report that includes case studies from Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro, highlights the importance of policy-relevant research in addressing local challenges during the transition to a greener economy.
