At a recent GreenFORCE Project event held on October 25th 2024, our director of research, Nermin Oruč, presented findings from the study “Assessment of Local Impact of Decarbonization in Coal Mining in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, coauthored with Amela Kurta and Ilma Kurtović. The study examines the social and economic effects of coal mine closures on local workers and communities. His presentation sparked engaging discussions with attendees, allowing for valuable feedback on how decarbonization policies could best serve the communities affected.
This study, contributing to GreenFORCE’s mission of supporting a just transition in the Western Balkans, underscores the importance of policy-relevant research for sustainable local development. As Bosnia and Herzegovina embarks on a green transition, such insights are crucial in shaping policies that protect workers and foster resilient economies.
