Center for Development Evaluation and Social Science Research – CREDI became the first social science research center from Bosnia and Herzegovina to sign the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) on 24/06/2024.
DORA provides guidelines for fair research evaluation, advocating for assessment based on scientific content over publication metrics or journal identity. Launched at the 2012 American Society for Cell Biology meeting, DORA has since gained global support. It advises against using journal-based metrics, such as Journal Impact Factors, as stand-ins for research quality in decisions related to hiring, tenure, promotion, or funding. DORA also highlights the importance of recognizing a variety of research outputs beyond publications, recommending the use of diverse impact measures, including qualitative indicators.
Following thorough deliberation, CREDI has endorsed DORA’s philosophy. Aligned with the CREDI’s way of conducting research, this commitment affirms our dedication to evaluating research inclusively, considering each discipline’s unique characteristics. The aim of signing this declaration is to support the vision that the assessment of research, researchers, and research organizations recognizes the diverse outcomes, practices, and activities that maximize the quality and impact of research.
