On February 4th 2025, our researcher Amela Kurta participated as a panel speaker in the Regional Policy Debate titled “After the Food Price Crisis: Lessons Learned and a Roadmap to Food Self-Sustainability in the Western Balkans”. The event, organized by the WEBecon Network with the support of SMART Balkans, brought together experts and policymakers to discuss strategies for strengthening food systems, enhancing agricultural competitiveness, and improving resilience to future crises in the region.
During the debate, Amela presented key findings from the regional study “Food/Energy Security and Household Livelihoods in The Western Balkans”, co-authored with Nermin Oruč. The study, developed as part of a regional project financed by SmartBalkans, provides an in-depth analysis of the impact of food and energy price fluctuations on household livelihoods across the Western Balkans.
By examining consumption patterns, coping mechanisms, and policy responses, the study offers valuable insights into how households have adapted to economic shocks and what measures can be implemented to enhance food and energy security in the future.
