On February 6, 2025, Nermin Oruč, our Director of Research, participated in the ninth BBinar on “Labour Migration: Drivers, Impact, and Responses in the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership Countries.” Hosted by the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, this webinar brought together experts to discuss the challenges posed by high emigration rates and labour shortages in key sectors such as healthcare, IT, and manufacturing. Dr. Oruč delivered an input presentation highlighting key migration trends in the region, their implications for labour markets, and policy responses aimed at addressing workforce shortages.
Following his presentation, Dr. Oruč engaged in a discussion with esteemed experts, including Bresena Kopliku from the University of Shkodra, Tibor Meszmann and Olena Fedyuk from the Central European Labour Studies Institute. The session, moderated by Sonila Danaj from the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of migration policies, the protection of migrant workers’ rights, and strategies for leveraging foreign labour and disapora to sustain economic growth. CREDI remains committed to contributing to evidence-based policymaking in the field of migration and labour market development.
