The Data Archive for Social Sciences in Bosnia and Herzegovina (DASS-BiH) participated in the FAIR Implementation Workshop: Enhancing FAIR and Trustworthy Data Repositories in the Western Balkans, held on 8 May 2025. This regional event brought together data repository experts and practitioners to share experiences and practical insights on improving repository transparency, metadata exposure, and stakeholder trust through the implementation of FAIR-IMPACT guidelines.
As part of the workshop programme, Amela Kurta, Head of DASS-BiH at CREDI, presented the DASS-BiH implementation story within the FAIR Implementation Support Action. She shared the steps taken by DASS-BiH to test recommendations for trustworthy repositories and enhance the FAIRness of social science data in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her presentation highlighted both the achievements and challenges encountered in aligning with international standards while navigating the specific needs and constraints of the Western Balkan context.
A key feature of the workshop was the comparative analysis of implementing the same FAIR-IMPACT tool in different disciplines, with DASS-BiH representing the social sciences and repositories from the University of Belgrade covering natural and technical sciences. This cross-disciplinary perspective offered valuable lessons on the adaptability and practical application of FAIR principles across diverse research fields.
DASS-BiH remains committed to promoting best practices in research data management and strengthening the position of social science data infrastructures in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Western Balkans region.
