The 9th International Migration Conference, organized by Mother Teresa University in Skopje was held on 20 November 2025. It gathered more than 50 researchers, experts, policymakers, and institutional representatives from the Western Balkans, wider Europe, and several Asian countries. The conference was held in a hybrid format, combining in-person participation in Skopje with online sessions, and featured three scientific panels with 36 selected research papers. Its overall focus was on contemporary dynamics of migration, including governance and public policies, labour markets and education, demographic change, integration, identity, and social cohesion in an international context.
At the beginning of conference, Nermin Oruč, our Director of Research delivered a keynote speech entitled “Labour Immigration to the Western Balkans: New Trends, New Challenges.” His presentation addressed recent shifts in labour immigration towards the region, emerging skills and workforce demands, and the institutional and policy challenges faced by Western Balkan countries in managing labour migration in a sustainable and evidence-based manner.
